She also works on behalf of school committees in prosecuting interest arbitrations and court proceedings. Laura has secured favorable outcomes for individuals, businesses, construction owners and contractors, and government entities. For example, she recovered nearly $1 million from a nursing home receivership to pay her business client's unsecured claim as a result of litigation to equitably subordinate the secured lender. On behalf of a homeowner, she acquired releases of fraudulent mortgage liens in settlement of claims against the mortgagee banks for slander of title and negligence. She recovered a home purchaser's costs to repair unreported defects in litigation with the home inspector as a result of a negligent inspection. Before joining the firm, Laura was associated with Hill & Robbins, P.C., in Denver, Colorado. There, her work included prosecuting a class action for nationwide retailers against a national communications corporation headquartered in Denver. She helped to secure an award of sanctions and attorneys' fees against the defendant for its misrepresentations and violation of court orders during discovery. She also performed internal investigations for a multi-national energy corporation to ensure compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices and Sarbanes-Oxley Acts. She served as assistant counsel to a water conservation district, protecting the groundwater rights of local farmers and irrigators through litigation and regional policy development. Prior to her legal career, Laura was a management consultant to high-level executives in strategic planning and workforce productivity training.
